In this time of economic and environmental crisis, I am struggling to cope with mainstream attitudes – I often wonder what Bucky’s summation of our current position would be … is eutopia still possible ?

Bucky wrote that “ … we have the choice of eutopia or oblivion …” but modern concepts of eutopia seems to be sustainable consumption to maintain current individual lifestyles and behaviours. Technology can deliver so much but the application of that technology seems to be too slow to avoid oblivion. We are consuming more than our sustainable quota of nature and it is political suicide for our politicians to suggest we change our lifestyle and behaviour to radically reduce our consumption.

Wealthy western lifestyle mostly requires that we consume, have money and do lots … making it difficault to not contribute to the problem.

Comprehensivity, anticipation, design and science each seem to be compromised in personal attitudes toward sustainability … indeed, even mentioning these terms ( and eutopia ) seems to bring on defenciveness.

I seek interaction with local people who can relate to these concepts.

Having been guided by Bucky's philosophies for nearly 20 years, I am hoping there are other Australian members of BFI that might like to get together for mutual support in our ' Livingry ' projects.

I am currently in Western Australia ( Mandurah ) but in exile for a year from my property in Margaret River. After February 09, I will be heading to new projects.

I am an architect, environmentalist, motoring enthusiast and retired politician ( local government Councillor ).
