2010 Challenge Convergence Hits D.C.
June 2nd, 2010. Conferring Ceremony at The National Press Club:
Philanthropist, social entrepreneurs, researchers, policy makers and engaged citizens filled the audience at the National Press Club as BFI announced and presented the prize to the 2010 Buckminster Fuller Challenge winner, Operation Hope. Martin Buchholz of Watergy Greenhouse was selected as the 2010 runner-up and both he and Allan Savory of Operation Hope presented their work prior to the announcement. The four remaining finalists, Barefoot College, BK Farmyards, Eco-Boulevards, and The Living Building Challenge were all selected as honorable mentions. 2010 Jurors Jose Zaglul, Hillary Brown, Ryan Chin, and Hardin Tibbs were all on hand to speak at the ceremony and congratulate all six finalists.

June 3rd, 2010. 'Architecting the Future' at American University School of International Service
A day-long symposium featuring presentations by all 2010 finalists, keynote addresses by Dr. Michael Ben-Eli and Juror Hardin Tibbs, a project update and demonstration by 2009 Winner 'Mobility on Demand', breakout sessions with finalist, jurors, advisers, and attendees, as well presentations by the following semi-finalist projects: Sustainable Disaster Response, Resources, and The Green Island Project.
Other programming at AU included the installation of the GeoDome and Aboard Spaceship Earth educational program, as well as a tour of the new School of International Service building by lead architect Kevin Burke of William McDonough + Partners and Deans Joseph Clapper and Louis Goodman.
