Submitted by Futureglass on Sun, 2007-12-09 08:31.

Dear Fellow members,

Futurelgass produces innovative contemporary glass furniture. We ahve produced a table range caled Tensegrity as this was a name suggested to us, and after learning more about Buckminster Fuller, found it appropriate.

Thought it might be of general interest, look forwad ot your comments.

Many thanks

contemporary glass furniture looks good, but this is very dedicated product to use on my view. The glass name is nice to hear....

Tensegrity furniture is fascinating because it seems to float and defy gravity. Obviously the pieces created by famed furniture designers are going to be very expensive, but you don’t have to attend Buckminster Fuller Institute to learn how to create your own piece. Using some basic plans obtained online, I made my own Tensegrity table using dowels, elastic and a glass top. It really didn’t take long because the principles of balance are well documented. But I really wanted one of these tables because it would be a perfect adornment in front of my black leather couch. I live in one of the kit homes sold in Australia and people are pleasantly surprised when they enter my living room and discover this unusual piece of furniture. It really stands out because of the fact it appears to resist natural laws of nature. So if you really want a Tensegrity table, all you have to do is build it yourself if you can’t afford an original piece.

Hi Gareth

I resized the picture because I couldn't see it all.

Tensegrity table

There are some tensegrity tables whose struts float if I remember correctly. I'll look for one and send it if I I find it.

Tensegrity tables

No, they don't float, my mistake. But a 2-layer tensegrity table could be supported from the floor with only tension.
