FLOATING BREAKWATER (1979) - U.S. PATENT - 4,136,994

Submitted by Michael Russo on Wed, 2008-07-16 15:19.

Not knowing exactly what "Design Science" is, I contend Bucky's Floating Breakwater - U.S. PATENT - 4,136,994 - has more potential NOW than it did in 1977. Is anyone prepared to produced one of these things? We have a location on Narragansett Bay in Providence, RI, that could definitely benefit from the installation of this technology. Please visit us at www.savebay.org to find out more. Very truly to yours, Michael Russo, Save the Bay Facilites Manager

Heating

Submitted by DomeMountain on Mon, 2008-03-17 12:10.

Having to add a permanent heating and cooling system to the Dome will be quite a trick. I had hoped to use radiant heating, maybe hooked to a geothermal system, but the cost will be way to much. I left space in the floor as I built because I didn't realize that I should have put the tubes in the cement base as I poured the original floor. Now I have sections of six inch rises and 4 inch rises. I was going to put 2 inches of insulation down and tubing and then pour cement on top. So much for trying to fix my mistakes.

Manufacturing shell elements netted in a special machine-similar to the ribosome living cells.
For residents in the building- mobile phone and the Internet.
It is necessary to synthesis of knowledge about genetics, mechanics and architecture to create
fantastic architectural diversity and sustainable development.
Made mini "House-sphere ARK" (puppet theatre) for children with limited abilities.
Stability of the future - is to use the structure of DNA. I believe that
New technology will help solve the problems of housing and creation

Effects of Holes and Openings in Geodesic Dome

Submitted by pollock1985 on Wed, 2007-11-07 11:08.

Hi,
I'm about to start my dissertation on the effects of holes and openings in Geodesic Domes. I have never dealt with geodesic domes in the past, and have little/no experience in the structural analysis of them.

There isn't a lot of information in my uni library, and am wondering if anyone knows of any good literature on the subject. Even if you know of any good books on the subject of geodesic domes would help greatly.

Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks very much,
Andrew

What do the HAVES have, that the HAVE NOTS have not?

Submitted by jon_van_meter on Sun, 2007-10-14 11:59.

In creating equality for all people, we need to address the question of basic needs for all of humanity, shelter, sanitation, communication, vocation, political representation, these among others are necessary for a planetary evolution from the money game to a growing society. I think that an artifact must be mass produced that enables each human to participate in the effective use of our planetary resources.

BUCKMINSTER FULLER C60 TYPEFACE

Submitted by jsmith on Tue, 2007-09-18 02:20.

hi,
i designed a typeface a few years ago, imposing the rules of the c60 / buckyball structure to letters etc, with the nodes and connectors becoming the design of the letterforms.
i'm looking to return to it in the near future, completing a lower case, and improving the upper case.
i was contacted a while back about using it on a book cover about buckyballs / rbf etc, which didnt amount to anything in the end, so i thought i'd post a pdf of it here, to see if anyone's interested in it in any way.
thanks
james

Monolithic Dome

Submitted by bertr on Thu, 2007-09-13 23:24.

I would like to start a talk about the following:

The possibilities of Designing and Constructing a Monolithic Glass or Growth Crystal Dome. The ultimate goal is to have a relatively self-sustaining stable environment, capable of supporting a population of 500 to 2500 inhabitants, with a micro economy for basic support and trade internally and externally. so we are talking here of a rather large dome with a ground base diameter of from 500 to 1500 meters. This will most likely turn out to be a true half dome, with a possible portion under ground elevation.

Tent City Jails

Ultra-low-cost jails are becoming the thing, sad as that is. This short article is very informative regardless of the context. For example, fire alarms are essential.

modules for spheres

Submitted by ammarvi on Sun, 2007-08-12 15:40.

First of all, i want to apologise because of my horrible english, i´m from Spain and i´m not used to write in this language.
I´m trying to project a stand made of glass spheres.
Each sphere has different radius and they are conected between them.
The glass is curved, and the stand has to be portable, so the structure mustn´t be fixed.

need help on glass dome

Submitted by sergio_cohen on Thu, 2007-07-05 17:05.

Well, after months studying, practicing and modeling on domes, finally they asking me to build a real one.

Should be a 2 mt radio, all glass, to be on top of a roof.
Kind of stressed skin done.
Im not architect, but modeling is coming ok.

The real thing:
- freq.3 dome
- 2 mt radio
- laminated glass 6mm
- "F" aluminum 1,6 mm

(need two of them screwed together and bend it 12 degrees.)

Is there anyone on this insitute who can give me some advice on calculating structures, weights, etc. ??
Anyone made similar one?
Thanks in advance,
Sergio (argentina)
