In the '60's, while studying Design and attending Dr. Fuller's classes and lectures; his ideas made great sense - to the extent I could 'keep up' with his brilliance. Today, having worked at a major Aerospace company and spoken with an ISS astronaut about our Spaceship Earth, the Manual is still perfectly relevant.

Are there gatherings where I can share my experiences and views with like souls? Are copied of his recorded lectures available today?

Not knowing exactly what "Design Science" is, I contend Bucky's Floating Breakwater - U.S. PATENT - 4,136,994 - has more potential NOW than it did in 1977. Where I have a different point of view from Bucky is that the whole use of the word "problem" is too confining to me as a designer. I do not consider that architecture should be involved with problem-solving at all. What it should be involved with is conditions of social betterment that hitherto were thought impossible. Problem-solving - if you can define a problem then you probably think there's some solution involved. So I find problem-solving far too limiting a concept and tend not to agree with Bucky.

The article refers to the Zeiss Optical Company building a geodesic dome after WW1, included is a German patent dated 1922.

Does any body know the details of this ?

in writing this book - i discovered independently, what fuller had discovered in 'critical path' over a matter of years, and published on the cusp of the carter/reagan administrations. i reread my copy of critical path. yup, fuller was right. the critical path occurred.

findings being - laws, economic laws, had pulled us away from ecological stability . . though my findings are much more raw and primal in nature, an example being that i was studying decaying trends and styles - most notably: tim allen movies, bad architecture, candy, graffiti, new wave, punk rock, big momma's house - basically, that which is subversive, yet somehow publicly accepted. ephemera.

studying the consumerist trends, essentially - i discovered the loopholes of capitalism and socialism, often in the most mundane circumstances . . often playing off each other. . . the purpose of the mundane is to make these findings more useful, somewhat poetic, so as to find anticipatory logic in the very pull away from anticipation - this is key - in contradistinction, and complimentary to fuller's "holistic" approach.

I am sleeping on the same schedule that Bucky used for 2 years and called the dymaxion sleep. It involves sleeping for 30 minutes every 6 hours for a total of 2 hours sleep a day.

Dear BFI,

I had the opportunity recently to change a proposal being put forward to the Green Party of New Jersey that would have had fluorescent bulbs. These types of bulbs while being energy saving in comparison to incandescent are not the solution. This is another case of seemingly doing good when superior developments are on the way. Please see my suggestion to look into LED lights below. I do not think Bucky would have been satisfied with fluorescent at this point.
