FLOATING BREAKWATER (1979) - U.S. PATENT - 4,136,994

Submitted by Michael Russo on Wed, 2008-07-16 15:19.

Not knowing exactly what "Design Science" is, I contend Bucky's Floating Breakwater - U.S. PATENT - 4,136,994 - has more potential NOW than it did in 1977. Is anyone prepared to produced one of these things? We have a location on Narragansett Bay in Providence, RI, that could definitely benefit from the installation of this technology. Please visit us at www.savebay.org to find out more. Very truly to yours, Michael Russo, Save the Bay Facilites Manager

From Leonardo to Fuller

In 'NEXUS Network Journal' you will find an article of mine regarding 'The

demonstrating the affinity
that exists between the reciprocal frames used by Leonardo and the rigid
tensegrities
developed by Fuller. Nexus Network Journal , Vol. 10,1 Williams, Kim (Ed.)

fluorescent v. incandescent v. LED

Submitted by George DeCarlo on Wed, 2007-03-14 00:54.

Dear BFI,

I had the opportunity recently to change a proposal being put forward to the Green Party of New Jersey that would have had fluorescent bulbs. These types of bulbs while being energy saving in comparison to incandescent are not the solution. This is another case of seemingly doing good when superior developments are on the way. Please see my suggestion to look into LED lights below. I do not think Bucky would have been satisfied with fluorescent at this point.

Thank you,
George

Buckminster Fuller, Technocracy, and the Green Movement

Submitted by dollarability on Tue, 2007-02-27 14:44.

I have become increasingly convinced by reading Buckminster Fuller that a comprehensive political program could very easily be developed out of his work. I have also become acquainted with the Technocracy movement as a result of reading Fuller. I joined the Green Party because I believe that the Green movement is most likely to be most responsive to Fuller's ideas, although Fuller himself was sceptical of political parties. I have two questions.

BFI Member Steve Brant hits the airwaves with Tom Friedman, Ted Koppel and Joe Steiglitz

Submitted by Joshua Arnow on Fri, 2006-06-16 11:19.

My friend Steve asked Tom Friedman (and economist Joseph Stiglitz) a poignant question about the role of science and peace in a world where a quality standard of living for all is technically feasible while the politics of scarcity still continues to justify war.

The event took place on April 19th in Washington and was hosted by The New York Times, moderated by Ted Koppel, and recently broadcast on a delayed basis by C-Span. Here's the link to the video, which steve posted to YouTube.com.

BE, DO, HAVE

Submitted by pmagnuso on Mon, 2006-06-05 11:38.

I am looking for material that goes more in depth on the philosophy of BE, DO, HAVE. I believe that this a topic that BF spoke about.

My understanding of BE, DO, HAVE is that this is a way to organize our personal lives around principles for living rather than possessions.

Thanks,

Greed Trumps Rational Solutions

Submitted by rsjacobson on Wed, 2006-05-03 21:53.

Faint glimmerings of hope exist that corporations will begin to invest in projects which yield less profit in the short term yet reap long-term benefits for the health of the earth. I am waiting for Buckminster's vision of an interconnected grid of wind turbines, yet fear that nuclear power will revive itself. BP claims to be seeking alternative solutions, while Exxon remains focused on oil and huge profits. Maybe attitudes are more progressive in Europe.
